Welcome to
Somerset Women in Rural Enterprise ...

SWIRE has been established by self employed business women, mostly based in Somerset, who run their own companies.

It is independent from, but supported by: WIRE; Everywoman; Somerset Chamber of Commerce and the Rural Enterprise Gateway.

The range of businesses involved varies from sole traders to limited companies. Most members balance the need to make money, with personal fulfilment and family life.

We welcome all women who run, or are thinking of starting, a business in Somerset.

Our purpose is to offer:

  • encouragement

  • inspiration
  • support

  • friendship
  • alongside information from business speakers

We meet every six weeks, usually in Taunton.  Our meetings have a business focus with lots of opportunity for networking too.

SWIRE is run by members for members - lots of us do a little bit to make things happen.

Membership is currently free although we do ask for £6 attendance fee for each event to cover our costs. Click here to join our distribution list to be kept up to date.

Joining SWIRE, does not make you a member of WiRE.
You do not have to be a member of WiRE to attend SWIRE. However, if you are a WIRE member, then attendance at normal meetings is free.

"My first visit to SWIRE was a revelation. Lots of laughing, smiley ladies. Very informal. I am looking forward to attending their next meeting." Pauline Naylor

“Since 2004, for the first time the gap between male and female entrepreneurial activity in the UK has narrowed.”
